What is zakuski (za cuh skee)?

The term zakuski is used to describe an assortment of shared appetizers to enjoy with friends and family alongside drinks. It is an integral part food culture in the countries of the former Soviet Union, and has become familiar in the U.S. thanks to the popularity of Kachka restaurant in Portland, Oregon.
